About the Committee
The Minnesota Developmental Adapted Physical Education Leadership Committee was established shortly after the landmark legislation for the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, otherwise referred to as P.L. 94-142. Total committee membership consists of 10 –15 professionals. The entire committee meets three times during the school year (September, January, April).
The Minnesota DAPE Leadership Committee is a volunteer group of education professionals with a mission to serve individuals concerned with quality physical education for students with disabilities.
The State Leadership Committee is comprised of representatives from Minnesota Dept. of Education; Higher Education; selected At-Large Members and DAPE Teachers who represent educational regions throughout the state. The committee serves as an extension of and a support network for the DAPE Council of Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Educators (MNSHAPE).
The MNDAPE Leadership Committee provides a vehicle for advocacy, resource development, professional development and planning and implementation strategies for DAPE policy and programs at the state and local levels. The Committee works cooperatively with the MN Dept. of Ed. and MNSHAPE.
Program Planning and Implementation, Resources and Advocacy, Pre-service and In-service development are the three major areas of focus.
